Visitors rise by 1/4 in May, daily average of 109,575

Macau’s visitor arrivals rose by 25.6 percent year-on-year to 3.39 million last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Macau’s visitor arrivals rose by 25.6 percent year-on-year to 3.39 million last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a DSEC statement on Friday, overnight visitors increased by 10.3 percent to 1.59 million, while same-day visitors surged by 43.3 percent to 1.79 million.

As the share of same-day visitors increased by 6.5 percentage points year-on-year to 53 percent, visitors’ average length of stay shortened by 0.1 day to 1.2 days, the statement noted.
Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.3 days.

The daily average of visitor arrivals reached 109,575 last month

Mainland Chinese visitors increased by 30.4 percent to 2.4 million, accounting for 71.4 percent of all visitor arrivals. Individual travellers accounted for 45.7 percent of the total number of mainland Chinese visitor arrivals, the remainder were members of tour groups. Visitors from Guangdong accounted for 43.6 percent of all mainland visitor arrivals last month, and those from the nine Guangdong cities of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) leapt by 45.8 percent to 924,272.

Visitor arrivals from Hong Kong and Taiwan rose by 20.1 percent and 4.4 percent to 581,780 and 87,837 respectively.

South Koreans continued to be Macau’s number-one foreign visitor segment, rising by 1.2 percent to 65,763.

Some 74.3 percent of all visitors arrived by land, rising by 64.2 percent to 2.5 million, 517,060 of whom arrived via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB). Some 15.2 percent off all visitors arrived via the mega-bridge.
Visitors by ferry declined by 39.1 percent to 546,919 in May.

In the first five months of the year, visitor arrivals rose by 21 percent to 17.18 million.(Macaunews)
