Gaming operator MGM said in a statement  Monday that to fulfil its corporate social responsibility it has launched the “MGM SME Anti-epidemic Support” programme as part of the community’s ongoing fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

The statement describes the programme as “a win-win initiative engaging a local SME cleaning company to carry out cleaning and sterilising work for the city’s SMEs [small- and medium-sized enterprises] to create a clean environment for a fresh start, which will significantly help them get their business back on track.”

According to the statement, the cleaning company – which was not named – “targets to help clean the shops, offices, warehouses and even business vehicles of 120 local SMEs in the next two months,” adding that “hand sanitisers and wipes will be distributed to them, which will come in handy for their staff’s good personal hygiene.”

The statement quoted MGM China Holdings Limited CEO and Executive Director Grant Bowie as saying that “SMEs are the backbone of our economy.”

Bowie added: “As we can see, the economy will not pick up so soon, therefore we are ready to continue with our effort in launching initiatives to help them recover from the epidemic in the long run.”
