Macao has requested the central government to allow tour groups from mainland China as long as the city’s Covid-19 situation remains stable.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong underlined that the local government has always maintained close communication with officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Beijing.

In addition, Lei also revealed that the government is aiming to resume its fireworks display on National Day (1 October) this year, hoping to attract more visitors and boost society’s confidence in Macao’s economic recovery prospects.

The city’s annual Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, which used to be held from early September through National Day, was cancelled in 2020 and last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Macau Post Daily reported.
