The global revenues of the 10 gaming and gambling companies in Macau in 2016 totalled 229.00 billion patacas (US$28.6 billion), a contraction of 1.8% compared to the figure recorded in 2015, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.
DSEC also reported that revenues from gaming (227.38 billion patacas) fell by 1.8%, and this decrease had slowed significantly compared to 2015 (-34.3%).
Catering revenues (506 million patacas) fell 7.6% year-on-year, while those of currency exchange (82 million patacas) rose 8.6% and interest received (655 million patacas) declined 40.7%.
The sector’s overall expenditure amounted to 96.93 billion patacas, or 4.8% less than in 2015.
Gross value added, reflecting the sector’s economic contribution, reversed the downward trend of 2015, rising to 155.44 billion patacas, slightly up by 0.5%.
