Signal No.8SE was issued at 6 am this morning and is likely to also remain in effect this afternoon.

At 1 am Tropical Storm Lionrock was located about 460 kilometres southwest of Macao and moving toward Beibu Gulf, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau announced.

Winds with sustained speed of 63 to 117 km/h are expected or gusts may exceed 180 km/h in Macao.

Four emergency shelters opened to the public at 06:00, including: Ilha Verde Refuge Centre, Macao Federation of Trade Unions Workers Stadium, Taipa and Coloane Social Service Centre (Taipa Branch) and Academy of Public Security Forces. As of 9 am this morning, the shelters were still empty.

Buses, LRT services, schools have all been suspended and the public is encouraged to stay indoors during this time.
