Tropical Cyclone Signal No 8 – which was hoisted at 10:30 pm last night – will be replaced with Signal No 3 at 11 am and the local winds will weaken as Typhoon Ma-on continues to move towards the western coast of Guangdong province, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) has announced.

Public buses and banks will resume operations at 11 am and 2 pm respectively, while all government departments will resume operations in the afternoon. Infant, primary, secondary and special education classes remain suspended all day.

Meanwhile, the storm surge warning was cancelled at 10 am and flooding in the city has not been as serious as expected due to the changing track and landing location of Ma-on, which is currently located about 240 kilometres west-southwest of Macao.
