The New Yaohan shopping centre — located in central Macau — is closed Thursday onward for a period of 15 days to support the measures implemented by the Macau government to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus in the territory.

New Yaohan —which belongs to the Macau Society of Tourism and Entertainment, SA (STDM) — is one of the most frequented shopping centres by visitors from mainland China.

Also from Thursday onward for a period of 15 days, the two Apple stores located in the Sands Cotai Central and Galaxy are closed.

Dozens of commercial establishments are also closed in the outer harbour area (ZAPE), which are usually open 24 hours a day.

A series of hotels widely used by visitors from Mainland China are located at ZAPE.

The Macau government has ordered the closure of the 41 Macau casinos for 15 days in a measure aimed at preventing the spread of the virus in the territory. The government admits, however, the possibility of maintaining the closure of the casinos if it becomes necessary for public health.

The closure also extends to cinemas, theaters, amusement parks, video games arcades, internet cafes, saunas and massage establishments, beauty salons, gyms, health clubs, bars, night clubs and other entertainment venues.

So far, restaurants, supermarkets and markets are open.

To date, there have been 10 confirmed cases of virus in Macau, of which seven are from visitors from China and three are local.
