Zhuhai has raised the validity of the negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result for arrivals from Macao to seven days.

The new regulation is likely to be warmly welcomed by the thousands of commuters who shuttle across the border each day.

Previously, after the Zhuhai authorities lifted the 14-day mandatory quarantine for arrivals from Macao on 19 October, travellers entering Zhuhai from Macao were required to present a NAT certificate confirming a negative Covid-19 result valid for 48 hours.

Zhuhai health authorities imposed a 14-day mandatory quarantine for arrivals from Macao in late September in the wake of a quarantine hotel security staff Delta variant cluster in the city, before lifting the quarantine requirement on 19 October.

The negative NAT result for travellers entering Macao from Zhuhai has always remained valid for seven days.

In related news, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has announced that the Macao government has raised the validity of the negative NAT result for arrivals from Hong Kong to 72 hours from just 24 hours.

The centre noted that the 14-day hotel quarantine requirement for Hong Kong arrivals remains unchanged.
