Hou Kong Middle School has issued a written apology for the part it played in a dance exchange trip to Xi’an when one female student was infected with the Covid-19 Delta variant.

The girl later infected her parents and brother in Macao, prompting authorities to launch a mass testing drive in the city which continues today.

The school – which has been rated as one of the best in Macao – sincerely apologised for the “inconvenience and disturbance” that its dance exchange group caused, and has taken a course of immediate action, The Macau Post Daily reported.

The school has notified teachers, the dance exchange group’s instructor and related close contacts, including the bus driver of the tour.

The school has also provided the Health Bureau with a list of what the team members and team teachers have done and where they have been since returning from Xi’an.

They also said that the school has urged the dance exchange team members and teachers to have their nucleic acid test as soon as possible.

Hou Kong has also suspended all group activities and urged students and teachers to stay in Macao during the holidays, wear facemasks when they leave home, wash their hands often and avoid all kinds of gatherings.

The school vowed that it has learnt from its mistake and pledged to promote Covid-19 prevention and control education in future.
