The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Saturday that a dead dolphin was found floating in the sea near Tam Kong Temple in Coloane.

The statement said that the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) reported the matter to IAM on Saturday morning. According to the statement, DSAMA staff brought the dolphin to shore for IAM officials to examine.

The statement said the Municipal Affairs Bureau confirmed the carcass to be of an adult female Chinese white dolphin, with a body length of 2.53 metres.

According to the statement, no external wounds were found on the cetacean’s body, but the dolphin’s skin had started to disintegrate, and the body had already started to decompose. Therefore, the statement added, the dolphin will probably be cremated.

Three weeks ago, an adult male Chinese white dolphin’s carcass was found near the shore at Cheoc Van Beach.

Saturday’s statement urged the public to call the Municipal Affairs Bureau on 2833 7676 if they see a stranded dolphin.
