The Communications Museum (CMM) opens to the public free of charge from today to Monday to celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Sunday and the International Museum Day (IMD) on Monday, according to a statement from the Macau Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) on Thursday.
ITU has declared May 17 as the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, with a different theme each year. This time the event is themed “Connect 2030: ICTs for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The initialism ICTs stands for information and communications technologies.
The museum, which is run by CTT, has arranged a string commemorative activities to be held over four days, such as free admission to the Communications Museum, while a temporary counter will be set up at the philatelic shop of the General Post Office (GPO) on Sunday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. to hand out the souvenir cover of “World Telecommunications and Information Society Day” free of charge and to provide a commemorative postmark service, according to the statement.
In addition, Macau’s telecom operators will offer their clients special promotions to mark WTISD.
The museum opens to the public from Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed on public holidays) at 7, Estrada de D. Maria II. For enquiries call 2871 8063.
Macau Communications Museum PR officer Sunny Kuok Hio Cheng told The Macau Post Daily that the museum, established in 2006, is a venue of cultural, scientific and technological significance. It offers visitors manifold experimental and interactive features to gain new experiences, learn and have fun – all at the same time.
Kuok pointed out that the city’s other local museums will arrange their own activities on Monday to celebrate International Museum Day.
