More than 700 people are currently receiving weekly food hand-outs from Caritas Macau, which started its support programme last May.

The programme provides basic foodstuffs for low-income individuals and the unemployed.

Caritas Secretary General Paul Pun said the charity had received around 860 applications for the food support programme, and was able to help about 700. “We help as many as we can,” said Pun, who added that he expected the situation to get worse in future.
