Macau and Portugal have initialled an agreement for the transfer of fugitive offenders from the two jurisdictions, the government said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, a Macau delegation paid a weeklong working visit to Portugal for talks on a bilateral agreement on the transfer of fugitive offenders and an agreement on mutual judicial assistance in criminal matters.
The statement pointed out that while both sides reached a consensus on the agreement on the transfer of fugitive offenders, further talks were needed on reaching a consensus on the agreement on mutual judicial assistance in criminal matters.
Portugal was represented in the talks by the Ministry of Justice’s Judicial Policies Directorate-General.
The Macau delegation included representatives from various entities, such as the Secretariat for Administration and Justice, Court of Final Appeal (TUI), Secretariat for Security, Public Prosecution Office (MP) and Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ).
