The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau said in a statement on Tuesday that the State Council has appointed Wang Zhimin as director of the Liaison Office, replacing Li Gang as the central government’s top official posted to Macau.

According to the statement, Wang, aged 59, was born in Fujian’s Xianyou county. He graduated from Fujian Normal University’s Faculty of Economics and Law. Wang holds a doctorate in economics.

The statement pointed out that Wang was a deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council until his posting to Macau.

According to the statement, Wang entered the workforce in 1975. He was a deputy director of the Central Government’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong. He is a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese Peoples’ Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

According to a Macau Liaison Office spokesperson, Wang is already working in the city.

According to previous media reports, Li has been appointed a vice director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in Beijing.
