The local government and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison will jointly organise a summer camp for local university students for the first time, the Tertiary Education Services Office (GAES) said in a statement.

According to the statement, the summer camp will be held from July 16 to 24 at the garrison’s Taipa barracks.

The statement said that some activities will not be held in Macau during the nine-day event. The statement did not say where the activities will be held. The local PLA garrison maintains backup facilities in Zhuhai.

According to the statement, there are places for 50 local students who are studying in higher education institutions in or outside Macau. Students about to graduate are excluded.

Students can apply to join the camp on http://studentblog.gaes.gov.mo/, a Web portal for local students run by the office, from now until June 12, the statement said.

The summer camp aims to enhance local students’ knowledge of the nation’s military affairs and the armed forces’ weaponry and equipment, the statement said.

In addition to enhancing local students’ sense of patriotism, the training camp also aims to improve their physical fitness and to strengthen their willpower, according to the statement.

The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Macau Garrison have been jointly organising annual summer camps for high school pupils for a decade or so.
