Xia Baolong, the central government’s top official on Macao affairs, met with representatives of several community associations and visited a school yesterday, as part of his week-long fact-finding visit.
Xia, who is the director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, also held talks with the Macao Chamber of Commerce and urged local entrepreneurs to leverage Macao’s unique positioning and advantages and promote economic diversification.
Among the stops on Xia’s itinerary were the headquarters of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions, where Xia was accompanied by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and finance secretary Lei Wai Nong.

He also called at the Escola dos Moradores de Macau, run by the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations, and the Women’s General Association of Macau service complex.
Later in the day, he also visited the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau.
Xia is in Macao until Sunday. He last visited the territory a year ago.
