The central government is studying measures to support Macao’s tourism, Huang Liuquan, deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office has announced.

Huang also said that the central government is preparing measures to accelerate the construction of the In-depth Cooperation Zone between Guangdong and Macao in Hengqin.

According to Radio Ou Mun Tin Toi, Huang admitted that the Covid-19 pandemic has had a serious impact on the economy and society of many countries, as well as Macao.

“The pandemic has given all sectors of Macao society a clearer understanding of the problems of the economic structure,” he said.

Huang also acknowledged that “Macao has faced some difficulties and challenges in recent years because of the pandemic, but economic development is still on the right track.”

“The central government has always attached great importance to promoting the moderate and diversified development of Macao’s economy and the project in Hengqin is producing phased results,” he added.

Huang said that “we believe that Macao will be able to take advantage of its unique advantages and continue to develop the economy and improve the livelihoods of the population.”
