Among the four elected local members of the 300-head Standing Committee of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), three are newcomers to the standing committee.
During the fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee in Beijing yesterday, former Macau chief executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah was re-elected as a vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
2,144 CPPCC members voted for Ho, or 100 percent of the members of the nation’s top advisory body who attended the meeting. Its new chairman, Wang Yang, also received 100 percent backing.
The 13th CPPCC National Committee has 37 Macau members.
The number of members from Macau to the standing committee for the 12th CPPCC National Committee was five, one more than the four members for the 13th CPPCC National Committee.
All the four local members to the standing committee for the 13th CPPCC National Committee are reappointed members from the 12th CPPCC National Committee.
Among the four local members to the standing committee, businessman Liu Chak Wan was re-elected. Liu is a member of the Executive Council.
The three local newcomers to the standing committee are Hoi Kin Hong, Leong Wa and Ma Iao Lai.
Ma, a businessman, is a son of the late civic leader Ma Man Kei.
Hoi and Leong are also businessmen.
The four local members who were members of the Standing Committee of the 12th CPPCC National Committee but no longer members to the standing committee for the 13th CPPCC National Committee are Eric Yeung Tsun Man, Ngan In Leng, Susana Chou and Xu Ze.
They were not reappointed to the 13th CPPCC National Committee in January.
Chou is a former president of the Legislative Assembly (AL). Ngan is a businessman and civic leader of the city’s sizeable Fujianese community. Yeung is a businessman. Xu is a former vice-director of the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau and a former vice-director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council.
