The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) garrison barracks in Taipa will be given an additional 18,858 square metres of land for the stationing of more troops, putting in more training facilities and more storage space for equipment, Executive Council spokesman Leong Heng Teng announced in a press conference at Government House Thursday.
Leong declined to say what the size of the garrison will be, The Macau Post Daily reports today.
“It is necessary for the government to assist the PLA in its development and [creating] additional training ground. I can’t say how many more soldiers there will be,” Leong said.
According to the respective by-law, the government will grant 18,858 square metres of land free of charge to the garrison in Taipa, which currently occupies an area of 42,187 square metres.
The expansion means that public recreation facilities and a road safety information centre next to the barracks will be relocated.(macaunews)
