Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On (CE) said on Monday he believed there would be more changes in the public administration’s senior personnel in the next two months.
Chui was speaking at the local airport before departing for a working visit to Fuzhou with Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac and other government officials. He made the remark when commenting about the recent announcement that Kuok Cheong U will succeed Chan Wai Sin as director of the Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre next month.
The chief executive said he acknowledged Chan’s performance during his tenure as the public hospital’s director, adding it was normal for Chan – who has been the director since 2008 – to return to his medical profession after years of administrative work.
All the government’s five policy secretaries were changed last December when Chui started his second and constitutionally final five-year term at the helm of the government. Policy secretary are principal officials appointed by the central government in Beijing. Bureau directors and other senior officials of the public administration are appointed locally.
Commenting on a Fisherman’s Wharf project involving the official approval of a 90-metre height limit which has been a source of controversy due to concerns that the building may block the view of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Guia Lighthouse, the chief executive said that the government entities concerned would take public opinion into account and their evaluation of the proposed development would be done according to the law.
