Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai on will pay a four-day visit to the national capital from Wednesday, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said on Sunday.

According to a GCS statement, Chui will attend the opening session of this year’s meeting of the National People’s Congress (NPC) on Thursday. Chui is not a member of the NPC.

The statement said that Chui was slated to meet People’s Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan during his stay in Beijing. No reason was given.
Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan will be acting chief executive during Chui’s absence.

Macau has 12 NPC members and 38 deputies on the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Chui’s predecessor, CPPCC Vice President Edmund Ho Hau Wah, and fellow local CPPCC deputies left for Beijing on Sunday.

Customarily, the annual CPPCC meeting starts a few days before the one of the NPC. (macaunews/macaupost)
