Macau, China, 2 Jun – Secretary for Economic and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen said Wednesday that the central government would "shortly" approve favorable policies to encourage Macau businesses to invest in the Guangdong-Macau Co-operative Industrial Park in Hengqin island.

Tam said he believed the green light from Beijing would come in the second half of this year.

Tam said after a meeting of the Economic Development Council that the Guangdong and Macau governments were jointly doing their utmost to achieve favorable conditions for enterprises such as tax incentives, split management and a 24 hour check-point service to be implemented at the Hengqin-Cotai border check point.

The Guangdong-Macau Co-operative Industrial Park in Hengqin which measures 5 square kilometers, 0,5 square kilometers of which will be used for the development of a Traditional CHinesa Medicine (TCM) Park, is seen as a tool provided by the government in Beijing to assist Macau in diversifying its economy.(MacauNews/Politics)
