The University of Lisbon will open a new faculty in China in the next academic year, in collaboration with the University of Shanghai.
The project was approved earlier this month by the Ministry of Education in Beijing.
Degrees and masters in the field of engineering will start as early as September, with students drawn from all over the world.
According to the University of Lisbon, the new faculty will host 900 students to start with.
Three degrees and three masters have been planned for the first academic year, in civil engineering, electrical engineering and environmental engineering.
The courses will be taught in English, with Portuguese as a second language; students will be expected to attend part of the study cycle in Lisbon.
The collaboration between the universities of Lisbon and Shanghai is reflected in the faculty, with a third of professors coming from Lisbon, a third from Shanghai and the rest recruited internationally.
The university stresses that this is “an important step in the international affirmation” of the institution, CLBrief reported.
