Traffic authorities in Zhuhai have started a campaign to strictly enforce laws on stopping for pedestrians.
Hundreds of drivers were ticketed during the first wave of mass citations on Thursday, in which law enforcement officers conducted traffic control operations around the clock, nabbing motorists who didn’t give way to pedestrians when required by law.
“The zebra crossing is the lifeline for pedestrians and the warning line for drivers,” Zhuhai’s Traffic Police Detachment warned, urging drivers to be ready to stop when they see one.

A second round of intensive citations is being carried out today.
The period of frequent inspections will last for five months, the Traffic Police Detachment says. Officers have been using random checks, camera surveillance and drones to detect transgressions.
Violators will be fined 200 yuan and have 3 points deducted from their driver’s license. Under mainland China’s penalty scoring system, drivers are required to retake a driving test if they incur 12 or more points’ worth of violations within the same year.
