The free Hengqin Midsummer Music Festival will kick off tomorrow at the Tianmu River Rowing Park, with the event scheduled to run for six consecutive weeks every Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 9:30 pm.

Musicians from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao will grace the stage and there will be interactive activities, food stalls and photo-ops on the site. Each weekend has a different theme, from “original soundtracks of films and animations” to “Hong Kong classics” and “crowd sing-a-longs.”

Shows for the “pop songs” theme this weekend have been snapped up already but pre-orders for next week’s shows (devoted to bands) on 25 and 26 July will start on Wednesday 23 July at 8 pm. Subsequent pre-orders will also take place on Wednesdays at 8 pm before shows on Friday and Saturday.

Tickets can be booked through Chinese ticketing app Showstart or through the “橫琴民生” mini programme on WeChat. Although tickets are free, the event operates under a “real name” policy, which requires ID upon registration and entry. Each ID number can be used to claim up to three tickets.

A free shuttle bus will also be available every 20 minutes at South Gate 2(南2号门)at Hengqin Port (南迎客平台) to transport participants to the venue. Buses run from 4 pm to 7 pm from the port to the venue, while buses run from 8 pm to 9:40 pm back towards Hengqin port.

The Hengqin Midsummer Musical Festival has been running since 2023 and has hosted musicians from China, Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia and Ukraine in the past.
