A 43-year-old local woman is undergoing treatment for Legionnaires’ disease in the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital Centre, the Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the patient is in a stable condition.
The woman sought treatment at the hospital on December 3 after she had developed a fever, dyspnea (shortness of breath) and fatigue two days earlier. She was initially diagnosed with pneumonia and laboratory tests later confirmed a Legionella bacteria infection.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the patient is still undergoing treatment for dyspnea but is otherwise in a stable condition.

The statement pointed out that the woman did not travel 10 days before the first symptoms of the potentially fatal disease appeared. Consequently, according to the statement, the Health Bureau has classified the patient’s condition as an isolated case.
