The observatory hoisted Standby Signal No 1 at 11 pm yesterday, which will remain in effect this morning. At 5 am, it was located 240 km east of Macao and heading towards the eastern coast of Guangdong.
According to the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), the chance of hoisting Tropical Cyclone Signal No 3 this afternoon is “medium”.
A tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea continues to approach the Pearl River Delta area, which will bring unsettled weather to Macao today and tomorrow with strong winds and heavy showers. The SMG urged the public to take precautions against floods and strong winds.
Forecasters predict there will be occasional thunderstorms today and winds will strengthen.
