The Altira Macau Hotel, located on the island of Taipa, temporarily closed starting Monday in a measure aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus in the territory.

A note from Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, owner of the hotel, said that the closure also aims to ensure the health and safety of hotel guests and workers.

The 38-story, 216-room hotel is classified as a six-star hotel and has a casino.

In the past few days, seven other hotels have closed in Macau for commercial reasons and to respond to government calls for special measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus

Among the closed hotels are Four Seasons, St Regis, Conrad and Ponte 16.

The eight hotels that closed have around 3,300 rooms combined.

A total of 15 two-star hotels and guesthouses have also temporarily closed their doors due to a lack of guests. The 15 two-star hotels and guesthouses have a total of 364 guestrooms.
