Signal No. 3 was issued at 6:30 am today and will remain in effect this morning, according to the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).
Typhoon Saudel is located about 510 km south-southeast of Macao and moving toward Hainan Island in a northwest direction.
According to the weather bureau, “Saudel will come closest to Macao during the latter part of today at a distance of about 450km.” Winds are also expected to strengthen in the next few days, as the “weather will slightly be cool with a few light rain patches”.
The weather bureau also says that “slight flooding will occur in the Inner Harbour area from 11 pm to 3 am due to astronomical tide.”
The public is advised to pay attention to the change in weather and the latest information. Drivers are advised to pay attention to traffic safety and motorcyclists are urged to travel through the motorcycle lane on Sai Van Bridge when going between Macao peninsula and Taipa Island.
Speaking to Rádio Macau on Thursday, weather bureau spokesperson Vera Varela said that there is a low possibility for the Typhoon Signal No. 8 signal to be hoisted.
The weather bureau, just last week, hoisted Typhoon Signal No. 1 when Typhoon Nangka was positioned about 760 kilometres southeast of Macao. Typhoon Signal No. 3 then followed on Monday evening and Typhoon Signal No. 8 Tuesday morning.
