Hong Kong has unveiled the strictest social distancing restrictions yet – including the suspension of all restaurant dining and a ban on more than two people gathering in public – with Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung describing the coronavirus situation in the city as “extremely worrying”.

Hong Kong confirmed a near-record 128 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, as the Hospital Authority (HA) acknowledged that new cases are being found faster than public hospitals can take them in.

Hong Kong recorded its 16th coronavirus-related death on Friday, as health authorities confirmed a record high of 123 Covid-19 infections, marking the third day in a row with more than 100 new cases.
