The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) hoisted the No.1 stand-by signal at 5 p.m. Thursday and said in a statement that there was a “fifty-fifty” chance that the No. 3 tropical cyclone signal would be hoisted today.
According to the SMG website, the tropical cyclone was located about 460 km south-southwest of Macau at 11 p.m., moving toward Hainan province.
According to the statement, the weather station predicts that the wind in Macau will become slightly stronger, the showers will gradually increase and there will be thunderstorms.
The blue storm surge warning remained in force last night. Blue is the bureau’s first-level storm surge warning, according to which the water level is expected to be below 0.5 metre above road level.
The bureau also urged the public to take precautions because it predicted that during the period from today to next Monday there will be flooding in the Inner Harbour area from morning to noon due to high tide.
