The timeline for the construction of so-called “sandwich class” housing could be announced within days, according to TDM.
The public broadcaster said that Raimundo do Rosário, the public works secretary, was also optimistic that lawmakers would pass the second reading of a bill on housing for middle-income families before the mid-August recess.
No information has been released on the likely prices of the apartments, however.

“The government says that the price will be revealed at the appropriate time, which will be decided by the chief executive,” Vong Hin Fai, chairman of a legislative standing committee, told media.
The government is reportedly planning to build up to 10,000 sandwich class housing units.
The scheme is designed to help permanent residents get on the property ladder. To be eligible, buyers cannot exceed certain income thresholds, cannot have owned property within 10 years preceding their application (except through inheritance), and cannot resell their flats on the private market for the first 16 years.
