Macau joins China organ sharing system

The Health Bureau Director Lei Chin Ion announced on Thursday that Macau has joined the national (China) organ sharing system.

The Health Bureau Director Lei Chin Ion announced on Thursday that Macau has joined the national (China) organ sharing system.

In a official statement from the Health Bureau Lei said some 150 registered patients that are now receiving hemodialysis in Macau could benefit from the system.

Health Bureau Director Lei Chin Ion said there are currently 750 local residents undergoing hemodialysis in Macau and from this group 300 are willing to have a kidney transplant and 147 have registered to be on the waiting list.

Lei also said Macau has joined the national organ sharing system and will notify relevant patients to be on the list.

The director also guarantees that training will continue and has indicated that the government sent (to Mainland China) five batches of people last year and this year for learning.

Last year Macau completed the first case of a living kidney transplant performed in Kiang Wu hospital.
