The Macau government announced tonight the city’s 18th confirmed COVID-19 case, a 50-year-old local female resident who arrived in Macau from New York via Hong Kong in the afternoon.

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the woman travelled by Cathay Pacific flight CX845 (seat 45E) from New York to Hong Kong where she arrived this morning.

She was found to having a fever upon arrival at the Macau border checkpoint in the afternoon when she was rushed to the special emergency department of the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre’s isolation ward for treatment. She has meanwhile been diagnosed with pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus.

Macau’s 18 confirmed COVID-19 cases include 10 patients – seven tourists from Wuhan and three locals – who have been discharged from hospital.

Eight cases, all of them imported, have been confirmed since last Sunday (March 15). Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was diagnosed on January 22.
