A 33-year-old man who received his first Sinopharm inactivated jab last month has been diagnosed with the facial paralysis known as Bell’s palsy.
A spokesman for the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said it is the ninth Bell’s palsy case following a Covid-19 vaccination reported in Macao.
The man, who got his first jab on 18 June, was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy on Tuesday after seeking treatment at the emergency department of the Kiang Wu Hospital.
The case has been reported to the Health Bureau (SSM), having been classified as a “post-vaccination adverse event of concern” and will be transferred to the SSM’s special working group tasked with assessing serious adverse events after Covid-19 vaccinations, reported The Macau Post Daily.
In related news, the centre announced that as of 4 pm yesterday, 387,925 doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been administered to 254,109 people in Macau, comprising 118,774 who had received their first jab and 135,335 who had received their second jab.
A total of 37 adverse events were reported in the past 24 hours (until 4 pm yesterday). The total number of adverse events since the start of the vaccination drive stood at 1,696, or 0.44 per cent of the total number of jabs, including five serious cases.
