The Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM) said in a statement on Tuesday that it will hold a virtual seminar on “Public Policy in the Practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems’” next week.

The statement noted that this year is “a new historical starting point” for the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

“The problem of how to meet the new opportunities and respond to the new challenges in the new era, and how to understand and implement the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy in a more comprehensive and accurate manner requires not only a conscientious summary of Macao’s past experience in the practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy, but also a deliberate analysis of the future prospects of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ in Macao,” the statement said.

According to the statement, it is necessary to examine and analyse how Macao continues to advance the development of “One Country, Two Systems” from the perspective of public administration, as well as how Macao continues to deepen the connotation of “One Country, Two Systems” from the perspective of law.

For this purpose, the One Country Two Systems Research Centre of the Macao Polytechnic Institute will hold a seminar on “Public Policy in the Practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems’” next Tuesday, according to the statement.

“Aiming to facilitate the growth of the MSAR in the new era, the seminar covers discussions on the theoretical and practical new issues during the implementation of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy such as the central-local relationship, anti-pandemic cooperation mechanism, public health, the coordination of economic and social development and national security,” the statement said.

It is hoped, according to the statement, that the seminar will play a significant role in safeguarding the interests of national sovereignty, security and development, motivating the long-term prosperity and stability of Macao’s civil society, and ensuring that the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” keeps progressing in a positive direction.

The seminar will be held next week from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on ZOOM. Local residents, teachers, college students and other people interested in the topic are welcome to participate, the statement said.

Registration is free and open until tomorrow, with a limited number of spaces on a first-come-first-served basis. Online registration is available at ipm.mo/ppzf. For enquiries send an email to [email protected] or call 8399 8712/8399 8642 to contact Ms Mak or Ms Chong of the institute’s One Country, Two Systems Research Centre.
