Unemployed graduates are being encouraged to sign up for the Labour Affairs Bureau’s (DSAL) Creating Better Job Perspectives for 2022 internship programme by 8 July.
The programme, which was launched in 2020, is open to anyone who graduated from a tertiary education institution with a bachelor’s degree or superior qualification since 2019. A total of 1,780 internships will be provided over the whole programme with 1,030 positions offered during the first phase.
The DSAL noted that in order to create diverse internship opportunities for the graduates, 57 companies have joined the programme this year, up from the 42 in 2021, including the leisure industry, public utilities, banking and insurance, construction engineering, medical care, airlines, retail and technology, which will provide a total of 1,780 positions over the whole programme.
Graduates who join the programme (website only available in Chinese) and start their three-month internship period will be given a monthly allowance of MOP 8,000, or MOP 50 per hour, and will be insured by their employer.
Graduates can sign up on the DSAL website or via their own Macao One Account to apply for up to two internships; after registering, their curriculum vitae will be submitted to potential employers for selection, and interviews will start next Wednesday. Results will be announced next month, and interns can start work in August or September.
The bureau urged applicants who are interested in the programme to submit their data as early as they can.
DSAL Deputy Director Chan Un Tong said that in the past two years, 1,000 participants completed their internships, and 590 were offered full-time positions in the companies where they interned, but only 385 stayed on.
DSAL Employment Department Job Supervisor Wong Sio Kuan added that the bureau is planning six workshops, three of which will be held online, to teach young people to write their curriculum vitae, The Macau Post Daily reported.
