General jobless rate stays at 1.7 pct

Macau’s general unemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.7 percent from February to April, as compared with that of the previous survey period from January to March, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Monday.

Macau’s general unemployment rate remained unchanged at 1.7 percent from February to April, as compared with that of the previous survey period from January to March, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Monday.

According to a DSEC statement, local residents’ unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.3 percent from February to April this year, as compared with that of the previous survey period.

The total labour force stood at 391,900 and the labour force participation rate amounted to 70 percent in the February-April period.

Total employment was 385,300, while the number of employed residents totalled 280,100, down by 1,800 and 1,900 respectively from the previous period.

Employment in restaurants and similar activities (24,300) decreased by 600, while that in gaming and junket activities (85,200) rose by 1,200.

The number of the unemployed amounted to 6,600, up by 100 from the previous period. Labour market entrants seeking their first job accounted for 10.3 percent of the total unemployed, up by 1.8 percentage points.(Macaunews)
