The carcass of a male Chinese white dolphin calf was found near a drain at the Macau International Airport runway, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the airport reported the dead dolphin to the bureau on Wednesday afternoon. IAM officials confirmed the carcass to be that of a baby male Chinese white dolphin, also known as Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, with a body length of 1.08 metres.
The statement pointed out that the dolphin’s skin was disintegrating, and since there were no external wounds, it was probably dead before being washed ashore. When the cetacean was found, the carcass had already begun to decompose. The dolphin will probably be cremated.
The statement urged the public to call the Municipal Affairs Bureau on 2833 7676 if they see a stranded or dead dolphin.
