Macao’s weather is set to drop substantially over the next week after weather forecasters issued a Yellow cold weather alert.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) warned that it is expected to be continuously cold in the next few days, with the minimum temperature falling to 12°C or below, while the minimum temperature for next Sunday is forecast to be 7°C.
As the winter grips Macao, the weather will be cold, dry and cloudy with occasional sunny periods. Winds are expected to be northerly force 3 to 5 with gusts.
The bureau urged members of the public, particularly seniors, children and people with chronic illnesses, to wear more clothes and stay warm. The SMG also suggested certain measures such as being fully aware of the great temperature differences during the day and at night, using heaters carefully and maintaining indoor ventilation, as well as consulting social welfare services if necessary.
Cold weather could trigger hypothermia and respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, especially among vulnerable groups, The Macau Post Daily reported.
