Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng was inoculated today with the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine, according to Radio Macau.

With the exception of Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon, all other principal officials of the government received the vaccination at the Centro Hospitalar Conde de S. Januário.

Starting today, all Macao residents can register to receive Covid-19 vaccines after 22 February.

Non-resident workers and non-residents who are legally residing in Macao will have to wait for the next round of vaccinations, which the government says will depend on the vaccination progress of the high-risk groups and locals.

The Health authority says that police officers, firefighters, medical workers and gaming employees working in the frontline can already register.

Health Bureau’s (SSM) Control of Communicable Diseases and Surveillance of Diseases Department Coordinator Leong Iek Hou on Monday called for all residents to get inoculated to achieve herd immunity.

“Getting vaccinated is not only protecting oneself. We hope that we can achieve herd immunity so that our lives and economy can return to normal. Of course, this is not only the task of Macao. The whole world should also work on this. The more people are vaccinated in the community and the world, the level of herd immunity can be enhanced. This is the only way to stop the disease from spreading,” she said during a press conference.
