Aviation regulator bans drones on peninsula during Grand Prix

The government will ban the operation of drones over the Macau peninsula during the upcoming 66th Macau Grand Prix from next Thursday to Sunday to ensure that the annual event will take place “in a safe environment”, the Macau Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) said in a statement on Wednesday.The statement noted that the Macau Grand Prix is an important annual motorsport in Macau and that in order “to ensure the safety of the track so that the races can be carried out smoothly”, the Civil Aviation Authority will implement the drone-flying ban over the peninsula during the four-day period, in accordance with Article 66 of the Air Navigation Regulation of Macau, which regulates the prohibition and restriction of aviation services under certain circumstances.According to the Macau Post Daily, the statement said that except the operation of drones by the local government, all other drones will be banned from flying over the peninsula during the Grand Prix period.The statement noted that anyone who violates the ban faces a fine of between 2,000 and 20,000 patacas.
