A 63-year-old female resident of Avenida de Venceslau de Morais died yesterday after drinking drain cleaning liquid.
Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Lon said that officers were notified by the Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at 10:20 pm yesterday that the victim, surnamed Ieong, had been certified dead.
Chong noted that at about 10 am yesterday, Ieong told her family that the drain in the toilet in the flat where they lived was blocked, so she went out to buy drain cleaning liquid. When the family returned home at 4 pm they found that Ieong had attempted suicide by drinking drain cleaning liquid and called for an ambulance.
According to a preliminary examination of the body, the deceased had chemical burns from the mouth to her abdomen, but no suspicious or criminal injuries were found.
No suicide note was found at the scene, and the case has preliminarily been classified as “dead-body-found”.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed by forensic examination, The Macau Post Daily reported.
