This year’s Walk for a Million is likely to be held both on- and offline as a precaution while Covid-19 continues to threaten Macao.

The 39th edition of the fundraiser, which is organised by the Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News, will be held on 12 December.

Fund President Ho Teng Iat said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the safety of the general public, it had been decided to hold this year’s charity walk online.

However, Ho added, in response to people’s desire to take part in a physical walk, a “limited-scale” offline physical walk has tentatively been scheduled for that day, subject to meeting the government’s Covid-19 prevention and control measures and obtaining permission from the authorities.

The proposed offline walk, which will start on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen near the Statue of Guanyin, will be limited to 25,000 participants who all must have been triple-jabbed against Covid-19.

Each gaming operator team will be limited to 2,000 participants, and primary school teams will not be allowed to take part.

The organisers said that the association will start receiving donations from today, adding that all the funds will be used for public welfare assistance, while the daily administrative expenses, such as the preparation of the walk, will be shared between the board members of the association, The Macau Post Daily reported.
