The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today that Macau’s 34th, 39th and 43rd confirmed novel coronavirus patients were discharged today and transferred to Centro Clínico de Saúde Pública for a further 14-day recovery isolation period.
Macau’s 18th discharged patient – the 34th confirmed COVID-19 case – is a 43-year-old male Macau resident. He took his two children to visit his wife in Manila, Philippines, since November last year. On March 18, he and his two children took Cathay Pacific flight CX902 to Hong Kong at about 7 p.m. (seat 14A, Business Class). They arrived in Hong Kong at 9 p.m. and boarded a bus crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. On entering Macau, they were required to observe 14-day quarantine and home medical observation according to the measures at that time. He had a mild cough and diarrhea but no fever.
On 26 March, his throat saliva sample tested positive for the novel coronavirus by nucleic acid testing. On the 25th day of hospitalisation, he was given antiviral drugs and symptomatic supportive treatment. His condition grew stable, with no fever and no respiratory symptoms. Upon re-examination, his results showed no signs of pneumonia. The nucleic acid test came back negative and his conditions met discharge standards.
Macau’s 19th discharged patient – the 39th confirmed COVID-19 case – is a 9-year-old female Macau resident and student, daughter of the 18th discharged patient. Since November last year, she was with her father and brother in Manila, Philippines, to visit their mother who works there. They had been in home isolation since arriving in Macau where she developed a rash on her abdomen and trunk, but with no fever developing.
On 30 March, a nasopharyngeal swab test was performed and confirmed she had the novel coronavirus. On the 21st day of hospitalisation, she was given antiviral drugs and symptomatic supportive treatment. Upon re-examination, her results showed no signs of pneumonia. Her condition grew stable, with no fever and no respiratory symptoms. Her nasopharyngeal swab virus nucleic acid test came back negative on April 16 and 18, meeting discharge standards.
Macau’s 20th discharged patient – the 43rd confirmed COVID-19 case – is a 53-year-old female Macau resident. The patient and her husband went to Portugal on holiday and visited family on February 4. They took flight KL1694 (seat 1D) from Lisbon to the Netherlands on March 30, then transferred onto flight KL887 (seat 5C) to return to Hong Kong on the 31st. On that same day, they took the chartered bus arranged by the Macau Tourism Crisis Management Office and returned to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Upon arriving in Macau, she was arranged for medical observation at Pousada Marina Infante Hotel in accordance with the quarantine measures of the Health Bureau (SSM).
Late evening on April 3, her nasopharyngeal swab test sample came back positive and she was diagnosed with novel coronavirus. On the 17th day of hospitalisation, she was given antiviral drugs and symptomatic supportive treatment. Her condition grew stable without fever, as well as no respiratory symptoms or shortness of breath. The patient’s nasopharyngeal swab virus nucleic acid test came back negative on April 14 and 16, and was reviewed on April 18. CT scans showed no signs of pneumonia, which met the discharge standard.
Macau’s last discharged patients were on April 17. In total, 20 patients have been discharged. Only 25 COVID-19 patients are still in isolation.
Nearly all of Macau’s novel coronavirus cases have been imported, with the second wave beginning March 15.
Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22. There have been no new novel coronavirus cases since April 8.
