Power utility CEM said that about 2,900 customers in Fai Chi Kei and Toi San districts were affected by a power outage that lasted for 21 minutes Tuesday evening.

The company apologised to the affected households and shops, saying that it was carrying out an investigation into the cause of the power cut.

In a written statement replying to media enquiries, CEM said that the power cut occurred at 5:45 p.m., when a power cable near the Fai Chi Kei Health Centre was damaged. The power supply to the affected area was resumed at 6:06 p.m., CEM said.

The Fire Services Bureau (CB) said a number of incidents in which people had to be rescued from lifts that had stopped working were reported during the power failure in the area, adding that no one was injured.
