Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Lam Hin San said Sunday that the registrations of about 14,000 vehicles have been cancelled since the beginning of the year, amounting to the total number of vehicles given up last year.

Lam made the remarks on the sidelines of a road safety activity for senior citizens hosted by his bureau at the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ Workers Stadium near the Barrier Gate.

“The negative growth rate for the number of vehicles has been 2 percent throughout the first half of this year,” said Lam, adding that the bureau’s goal was to reach a negative growth of 3.5 percent or below.

Lam said the bureau would try to speed up the elimination of old vehicles which emit black exhaust smoke from the city’s roads.
