Scammers are using fake insurance websites in the latest ruse to dupe unwary netizens out of their money, according to the Judiciary Police (PJ).

AIA Group Limited Macau Branch alerted the PJ that a fake AIA website – “AIA Investment Management System” – has been circulating online using the address “aia-ims.morestar.com.hk”. Police stated that the company has confirmed that their website address is “www.aia.com” and the company’s headquarters had reported the incident to the Hong Kong police.

In the wake of the latest news, police have urged the public to be vigilant and not to log on to suspicious websites

Police also reminded the public to pay attention to network security and to refrain from logging on to websites of unknown origin and registering personal data.

The public was reminded of other key online safety points:

  • Check the accuracy of website addresses before logging on.
  • Install anti-virus software and firewalls on computers and smartphones and update them regularly.
  • Change passwords from time to time.

Anyone suspecting they are a victim of a scam should call the PJ hotline 993 or fraud prevention hotline 8800 7777.
