Macao’s temperature is expected to dip to a cool 13°C this Sunday, according to an announcement published by the Metrological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG).

Between Friday and Saturday, the temperature will drop markedly from 22°C to 16°C, before falling further on Sunday, the bureau said. By next week, the mercury is expected to continue dropping to a minimum of 10°C.

The rest of Guangdong province can also expect cooler weather this week, accompanied by rainy and windy conditions.

During the cold spell, a government-run facility in Ilha Verde will be open to those who require shelter from the cold.

The falling mercury comes after an exceptionally warm year in Macao and globally – indeed the hottest ever recorded, according to the World Meteorological Organisation

The impact was felt in Macao, which experienced an exceptionally wet summer and the hottest October day on record, with temperatures hitting 35.2°C on 4 October.
