Macao’s newest Light Rail Transit (LRT) line, the Seac Pai Van Line, has started trial operations following the completion of construction on its main structure and vehicle system, the Public Works Bureau (also known by its Portuguese initials DSOP) announced in a statement over the Easter weekend.

Running a total of 1.6 kilometres, the Seac Pai Van Line connects the two stations of Seac Pai Van and Island Hospital, and is connected to the Taipa Line by way of Lotus Station.

The department said that the trial run will be conducted in three stages, with phase one confined to the main route before being extended to the track leading to the Taipa Line’s Lotus Station in the second phase. The final phase will see trials being conducted across the entire line.

The DSOP also stated that it would be gradually performing restoration work on the roads and vegetation around the Seac Pai Van Line, in addition to cleaning up and conducting tests on the pedestrian bridges that are linked to the stations.

According to the statement, the goal is to have the line operational this year.

Currently, there are two other LRT lines under construction – the Hengqin Line and the East Line. The former is also set to open later this year and will link Taipa to Hengqin. The East Line, which connects the border gate to Taipa, and to the land reclamation areas currently known as Zone E and A, is set for completion in 2028.
